The post wherein I describe the recommencement of fiddle making

It’s pretty but it ain’t a fiddle is it:

I did however make it (the patio, not the smoker, though I made what was in that too). And making that patio meant I got no work done last weekend in the shop. But yesterday I finally broke my streak of shopless daysIMG_20160323_084211899

First I made one last run over the purfling shelf, getting it all nice and even. Once that was done, I put the clamp spools to their first use to elevate the plate

Then I used some thin hide glue to size the edge, hopefully making it a little harder to chip when I’m purfling.

Then, tired out from all that heavy labor, Allison and I went to Michigan to drink tasty beers and play bocce ball.

If you look closely, you’ll see beer, bocce balls, and Allison.

Today, I continued my now-two-day streak and got some shop time in. Today was scary stuff time in the shop. I started by marking the purfling channel.

That’s a purfling marker there. Then, instead of making the corners immediately, I decided to start cutting the channel.

This is pretty painstaking work, so I am guessing I’ll be at it for a week or so. But hey, progress is being made on the fiddle!
